Jeffrey Blavatt ’88 steps down from The Eisenhower Institute

After nearly a decade serving as its executive director, Jeffrey Blavatt ’88 has decided to step down from his position at The Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College.

“It has been my honor to serve as the Institute’s executive director,” said Blavatt. “Over the years, I have had the distinct privilege of working with many leaders, experts, students, faculty, dedicated alumni, and others at the College, and, with their enthusiastic support, I’m looking forward to seeing how the Institute will continue to grow in the future.”

Blavatt became involved with The Eisenhower Institute by serving on its Board prior to its merger with the College in 2009.  In 2007, he took on a leadership role of the Eisenhower Institute and as executive director he was instrumental in building the foundation for and the expansion of the Institute’s expert-in-residence programs. He is known to many, especially alumni, for being a connection builder and career mentor to the students he has worked with.

During Blavatt’s transition, Susan Eisenhower will provide the leadership for the Eisenhower Institute in her role as Chairperson Emerita.

“Jeffrey’s love of his alma mater and the Institute is unmatched, and clearly made evident through the passion and hard work he brought to his work at the College,” said Provost Christopher Zappe. “His humble and dedicated leadership will be missed, but he will continue to be remembered as a prominent fixture of our community by many, especially our students who have benefited from his mentorship over the years.

“We are confident that with the support of the Institute’s strong foundation and community, as well as Susan’s leadership during this transition,” he continued, “the future of the Institute remains bright.”

In 1996, Blavatt and his family established an annual lecture at Gettysburg College. Speakers have included influential members of Congress, well-known writers, accomplished authors, talented educators, noted researchers and leading political scientists.

Blavatt graduated cum laude from Gettysburg College in 1988, with departmental honors in political science. He has remained active with his alma mater, having served as a member of the National Campaign Steering Committee and on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, serving as its President from 2000 to 2004. In addition, Jeffrey served on the College's Board of Trustees from 2000 until 2008.
